When I was a boy in pre-historic times one of my favourite comics was the Dandy and my favourite character in it was undoubtedly the literally larger than life Desperate Dan who was a well meaning, tough cowboy who would get up to weekly japes in a children’s cartoon–realised wild west. He would shave using a blow torch and his favourite food was huge cow pies complete with pastry horns sticking up out of the pie crust.
